This card, Burning Earth, would benefit a deck that aims to punish opponents who rely heavily on nonbasic lands for mana production, such as decks with a lot of dual lands or utility lands. While Burning Earth can be effective in certain matchups, there are potentially better options like Blood Moon or Magus of the Moon that can completely shut down nonbasic lands. Whether Burning Earth should see play depends on the specific metagame and the overall strategy of the deck it would be included in.

If any nonbasic lands are tapped for mana while a player is casting a spell or activating an ability, Burning Earth’s ability will trigger that many times and wait. When the player finishes casting that spell or activating that ability, Burning Earth’s triggered abilities are put on the stack on top of it. Burning Earth’s abilities will resolve first.

To tap a land for mana is to activate one of that land’s mana abilities that has in its activation cost and produces mana as it resolves.
