A deck that focuses on tribal synergies, such as Elves, Goblins, or Zombies, would benefit from using Adaptive Automaton as it boosts other creatures of the chosen type. While Adaptive Automaton is a solid inclusion in tribal decks, there are potentially better options like Metallic Mimic or Vanquisher's Banner that offer additional benefits such as +1/+1 counters or card draw. However, Adaptive Automaton can still see play in decks looking to maximize creature type synergies.

Even though Adaptive Automaton is a Construct, other Construct creatures you control won’t get +1/+1 unless you chose Construct as Adaptive Automaton entered the battlefield.

The choice of creature type is made as Adaptive Automaton enters the battlefield. Players can’t take any actions between the time the choice is made and the time the appropriate creatures begin to get +1/+1.
