A deck focused on +1/+1 counters and aggressive creature strategies would benefit from including Elite Scaleguard, as it provides both board presence and disruption potential. However, there are more efficient cards like Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit or Abzan Falconer that offer similar effects with additional benefits, making Elite Scaleguard less likely to see play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks.

Bolster itself doesn’t target any creature, though some spells and abilities that bolster may have other effects that target creatures. For example, you could put counters on a creature with protection from white with Abzan Skycaptain’s bolster ability.
