Mathias Shaw would benefit most in a Rogue tempo or Stealth-focused deck built around repeatedly attacking with Stealthed minions, since each attack can generate a significant discount and help the deck chain cheap cards; however, it is too slow and conditional for most competitive lists because it costs four mana, requires a Stealthed minion to attack, provides no immediate card advantage, and discounts a random card. In a dedicated Stealth deck, Greyheart Sage is generally better because it offers reliable card draw, while stronger modern Rogue tempo tools such as efficient threats, removal, and value engines usually provide more immediate impact; Mathias Shaw should therefore only see play in a slower or heavily themed Stealth Rogue deck, not in a typical ladder or competitive Rogue list.
