About Coilbearer
Coilbearer, Minion - mech, designed by Brian Despain first released in September 2026 in the set Reign of the Black Empire.
Coilbearer would mainly benefit a spell-heavy Mage deck that has reliable card draw, top-deck manipulation, or a strategy that rewards playing discounted spells, such as a slower value, combo, or spell-synergy deck; however, putting the discovered spell on top of your deck makes the effect significantly less immediate, and without strong draw it effectively delays the card you chose. If its stats are only average for a two-mana Mech, it is probably too slow for competitive tempo or aggressive Mage decks, and in Wild, Primordial Glyph is generally better because it discovers a spell, discounts it by two, and gives it to you immediately; Standard alternatives that draw or discover spells directly may also be preferable. Coilbearer should see play only if Mage has strong draw/top-deck synergy or if its Mech body is unusually efficient—otherwise it is a niche value card rather than a staple.
