Selfless Protector, Minion, designed by Max Grecke first released in Feb, 2026 in the set CATACLYSM.
Selfless Protector would theoretically fit into a low-curve aggro or tempo deck that wants early Taunt minions to protect more valuable threats, but because it takes one extra damage from all sources, it is significantly weaker at actually fulfilling that defensive role. The drawback makes it especially vulnerable to pings (like Hero Powers) and small trades, meaning it often fails to stall effectively. In most cases, better 2-mana Taunts such as Annoy-o-Tron (with Divine Shield), Shielded Minibot (historically), or even more stat-efficient neutral minions would outperform it by being stickier or providing additional value. Unless there is a very specific synergy with self-damage effects (which is rare and usually not worth the slot), this card would generally not see competitive play and would likely be considered below average compared to other early-game defensive options.
