About Containment Unit
Containment Unit, Item, designed by None first released in Feb, 2026 in the set Winterspell.
Containment Unit fits best in Steel-based control or tempo decks that want to stall a key opposing character—especially against decks relying on a single large quester or challenger (like Sapphire ramp finishers or Ruby aggro threats)—because it locks that character out of both questing and challenging for as long as you can sustain the discard cost; it’s particularly appealing in Steel lists that already generate card advantage (e.g., A Whole New World builds) or don’t mind pitching cards. However, it competes with generally stronger and more permanent answers like Let the Storm Rage On (direct removal), Smash, or Grab Your Sword (board control), and even Along Came Zeus in Steel/Sapphire builds, which remove threats outright rather than temporarily suppressing them while costing you ongoing resources. Because Containment Unit requires continuous discards or it self-banishes, it’s usually less efficient than straight removal unless the metagame is very focused on single, protected win
