About Tricksy Improviser
Tricksy Improviser, Minion, designed by Alex Stone first released in Jun, 2026 in the set Escape from Violet Hold.
Tricksy Improviser would fit best in a tempo- or spell-heavy Mage deck that can reliably cast a spell before playing it—such as Secret Mage, Tempo Mage, or any list that chains cheap spells to maintain board pressure—since triggering its Battlecry consistently is key to getting value. However, it’s generally weaker than more efficient Secret generators like *Kirin Tor Mage* (which cheats a Secret into play for free with better tempo), *Anonymous Informant* (which reduces Secret cost and snowballs pressure), or *Arcane Flakmage* (which provides strong board control synergy), making it comparatively slow and somewhat inconsistent because the Secret is random. While it could be a fringe inclusion in a budget or fun Secret-focused build, competitive Mage decks typically have better, more reliable options, so it likely wouldn’t see serious play unless the meta strongly rewards extra Secret generation.
