About Firdoch Core
Firdoch Core, Kindred artifact — shapeshifter, designed by Jason A. Engle first released in Jan, 2026 in the set Lorwyn Eclipsed. It see play in 1 formats: Commander.
Firdoch Core would fit best in a tribal (“Kindred”) deck that cares about having specific creature types on the battlefield, since Changeling makes it every creature type at once—meaning it can enable cards like Herald’s Horn, Vanquisher’s Banner, Cavern of Souls, or tribal lords and payoff cards in Commander (such as Reaper King, The Ur-Dragon, or any five-color tribal shell); it’s especially appealing in slower, multiplayer formats where flexibility matters. However, at three mana for a rock that only taps for one mana and requires four more mana to become a temporary 4/4, it’s relatively inefficient compared to staples like Chromatic Lantern (better color fixing), Coalition Relic (stronger ramp), or even Relic of Legends and The World Tree in five-color decks, and as a creature option it’s far weaker than cards like Universal Automaton or Masked Vandal for synergy. Overall, it’s flavorful and flexible for casual tribal Commander decks that value creature-type synergies on noncreatur
