Generous Gift is een veelzijdige verwijderingsspreuk die nuttig kan zijn in op wit gebaseerde controle- of midrange-decks die met problematische permanents willen omgaan, terwijl hij ook een blokkering biedt in de vorm van een 3/3 Olifant-token. Er zijn echter efficiëntere verwijderingsspreuken, zoals Swords to Plowshares of Path to Exile, die de tegenstander geen wezen teruggeven, waardoor ze in de meeste situaties betere opties zijn. Generous Gift zou kunnen worden gespeeld in decks die specifiek profiteren van het maken van wezenstokens, maar over het algemeen is dit misschien niet de meest optimale keuze voor competitief spel.

If the target permanent is an illegal target by the time Generous Gift tries to resolve, the spell doesn’t resolve. No player creates an Elephant. If the target is legal but not destroyed (most likely because it has indestructible), its controller does create an Elephant.
