I had the privilege of participating in Theorycraft and playing early with the new Voyage to the Sunken City cards, after some notes and testing I noticed how strong the Mech Paladin deck was.
Check out this guide to surprise everyone with this deck that has become a great promise of the update.
Mech Paladin Overview
Mech Paladin is a midrange deck where you want to drop a few minions following the mana curve, and win with a board full of mechs with Taunt and Divine Shield.
The deck is also intended to buff the minions in your hand, use various resources for this, such as the Prismatic Jewel Kit weapon.
The Click-Clocker is a 1-cost mech that contains Divine Shield, interacting very well with the deck, as well as strengthening an ally in your hand. Another good minion for the starting turn is Righteous Protector, another minion with Divine Shield.
There are several mechs for the second turn, such as Annoy-o-tron, Seafloor Savior, Amalgam of the Deep and Security Automaton. All of these have a entirely different effect, so think carefully about when is the right time to play each of these minions, to generate as much value as possible.
Now I'm going to highlight a couple of minions that, even though they aren't mechs, are perfect for this deck. The Stonehearth Vindicator will pull the Radar Detector (the deck's only spell) and make it cost 0 — as you cast the spell, you'll buy several mechs, filling your hand with minions. Then just play Alliance Bannerman, which will buff ALL these minions by +1/+1.
Azsharan Mooncatcher, in addition to having Divine Shield, contains a great Attack power for an offensive, remembering that it can be strengthened by the other buffs already mentioned.
Seascout Operator summons two 2/1 mechs, generating a lot of value for only 3 cost. Just make sure you're controlling another mech to activate the effect.
To grant Divine Shields to all mechs, use Bubblebot. It has a great body and still contains a great effect.
The last mech in the deck is the legendary The Leviathan, it's great for fighting a board because it has Divine Shield and Rush. In addition, it contains Dredge to place a card on top of your deck, and summons another minion with Divine Shield and Rush that draws a card when it attacks.
Attack first with The Leviathan to activate Dredge, then with the other minion to draw the card you dredged.
Finally, there are two 4-cost minions that serve as removal, the Cariel Roame and First Blade of Wrynn. However, Wrynn needs to be at 4 attack to receive Rush, for that count on the buffs of the deck.
The variety of minions with Divine Shield serves to gain an advantage on the board, in addition to interacting with the weapon Prismatic Jewel Kit and strengthening your hand. Mechs are present because they contain many Divine Shields and because they interact a lot with Bubblebot, Click-Clocker and Security Automaton.
Mulligan and Game Posture
For your starting hand, look for 1, 2 and 3 cost cards for a good start. On the first turn, the weapon Prismatic Jewel Kit is preferred. For later turns, seek out minions with Divine Shields to activate the weapon's effect, such as Annoy-o-tron and Azsharan Mooncatcher.
About the game posture, I've mentioned several times here that you should only play in the mana curve, and gradually filling your board. Play with patience and wait for the best moment to play Bubblebot, he is the biggest star in the deck.
This deck doesn't have a specific win condition, just power up and play multiple mechs. Gradually, you will easily be able to deal with the opponent's field and deal a lot of damage to their hero, all while losing very few minions, as most come with Divine Shield.
For me, the deck holds great promise for Voyage to the Sunken City, some factors indicate that the new expansion will highlight board competition and minions, leaving spells a little to the side. And when it comes to board competition, this deck is perfect — you can easily eliminate enemy minions without even losing your own.
That's all for today, I hope this article has added a lot of knowledge about the deck and the new expansion.
Any questions feel free to say, if you've thought of another deck for the new set don't hesitate to share with us in the comments. Hugs!
